What is a Mom-ME! Fitness Club?
This is a FREE club existing in city parks. It all starts with a local mother who decides she wants to make friends and become fit. Some clubs meet 2-3 times a week or only on the weekends. Typically mothers work out for 30-40 minutes then have playtime at the park with the kids.
Why is it called Mom-ME!?
It is called “Mom-ME” because we know how hard it is to find a babysitter! Instead of leaving your kids with a sitter, you can bring them with you and exercise with them! Whether they are still in a stroller or already walking, there are a ton of exercises you can perform with them so they are integrated in your fitness routine.
I just had a baby a few weeks ago. Is it safe to workout?
You should receive a physician’s clearance before you start an exercise program. It is typical to wait at least six weeks post-labor.
I am pregnant. Can I workout with the club?
Yes, you can workout with the club. Consult with your physician or midwife before you begin. This is a great opportunity for you to meet other mothers and stay healthy throughout your pregnancy.
I have kids that don’t use a stroller, can I still workout?
YES! Every mother can workout regardless of how old their child is. We exercise around the park vicinity and can supervise our kids 3+.
I don’t have kids, but want to get fit and meet friends, can I still workout?
YES! We welcome anyone who wants to exercise. In fact, many mothers bring their friends, sister and mother to workout with them.
I haven’t worked out in a long time and am really out of shape. Are the workouts very intense?
The workout is adjusted according to your personal fitness level. If you are a beginner, advance or intermediate, the exercises can be adjusted to suit your strength.
What kind of Exercises do we perform?
Most workouts involve exercises utilizing your body weight, park benches and tables. Other workouts also include jump ropes, exercise bands and medicine balls – an investment the group can make for as little at $30 total.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just wear comfortable clothing and shoes. You may need to bring additional items for your baby/child, a hat or sunglasses to shield you from the sun and a towel to sit on the ground.
How do I start a Mom-ME! Club?
It’s really simple. Email me at maria_m_kang@yahoo.com and I will send you: a template for fliers you can disperse in your area and several different workouts to perform with the club.
Why should I start a club?
Sometimes being a mom, especially a new mom, can be lonely. Not only is it lonely, but it is also frustrating when you have weight to lose from the pregnancy. Creating a club will allow you to meet new moms, get out the house and help you lose weight by becoming accountable to others.
What inspired the Mom-ME! program?
I am a new mother who understands the need to connect with other mothers in a healthy environment. I know how important it is to lose the ‘baby weight’ post-pregnancy. I also know how increasingly important it is to have children become part of a fit and fun outdoor location. My vision focuses on the need for community, connection and compassion between mothers and their fitness journey. – Maria Kang
